Overview
Theia was my Project Team’s exhibit experience to develop for Bradley University’s Peoria Riverfront Museum FUSE showcase in 2022. It is an AR Tablet Application that lets users create a cartoon-style plant that can be as alien and monstrous as they want using a canvas of preset colors and 3D models of plant parts designed by the Art & Design Team. I was assigned to the UI Team to aid in developing Theia’s User Interface, User Experience, and Promotional Material

The Problem and Solution
My team, along with every other FUSE team, had to create an engaging 2-minute experience to display in the 2022 Interactive Media Exhibition. We decided on an AR Plant-building experience because it was unique, required devices that weren’t designed for very often in FUSE, and was accessible and understandable to the widest demographic possible

The Design Process
The Design Process
Sketching
Initially we did not know what device our project would be designed for, but we knew we wanted to do something in a 3D setting and we quickly chose AR integrated into iPads for the user’s device.

User Flow
We did not develop a Journey Map or any Personas for Theia because its users were always intended to be museum goers: people and their families coming to FUSE as a whole.
Moodboard
Theia’s moodboard was very basic and unpolished because we focused more on iterating the visual style as we designed instead of a dedicated style guide

Cut Content
At first we wanted a wide variety of features, but we realized that many either weren’t feasible to complete by the showcase or would have added unnecessary complexity to the experience.
First Draft of the UI
This UI was the basic wireframe for the customization screen and was the best choice for future iterations.

User Interface
This is the main interface in the UI, manipulating the sliders and different properties of the plant is how users create their own unique plant.
After the user is satisfied, they have the option to take a photo of their plant to print out and take with them as a reminder of their experience.

UI and Banner Designs

Theia received very positive reception from every visitor who had the opportunity to mess around and interact with our project. We had no complaints, and we were able to meet almost every single goal we set at the beginning of development.

Thank you Jeremy Gluck, Joe Weaver, Seth Weeks, and Shane de Sibour for making my first experience on a UX team so memorable!
